Solitary poppy

This lonesome poppy was sitting on top of an 8 foot wall.  It got me thinking of how poppy seeds might be spread from the parent plant.  The seed are contained in a pod from which they are shaken by the wind, but would they be blown up to the height of this wall? Maybe.  Birds may eat the tiny seeds, but if they are to get nutrition from the seed, surely the germination of the seed is destroyed.  Or could it be that many of the devoured seeds are not digested, pass out in the droppings, on top of a wall, and so the cycle repeats.
