Aquilegia

A few weeks ago an elderly neighbour, Barbara, died. She had been in a care home for many years and her family knew that the funeral would not be open to friends and neighbours. 

All the nearby households were invited to stand at their gates when the hearse came along the road. Everyone was out .... many I hadn't seen for weeks because of the lock down. A day or two later Barbara's niece and her young daughter visited every house and laid a little bunch of garden flowers on the doorstep. 

I removed the Aquilegia for today's photo  and it's now back in the vase.
It was such a lovely, thoughtful gesture.
