Italian fruit stall
I have taken so many potential blips today - the mist rising over the Chianti hills, several ancient castles and a fiery sunset - but the market stall has won instead! These vans visit all the little towns once a week, here Radda-in-Chianti on Thursday. The stallholders are so proud of their fresh seasonal produce, all Italian. The counter groans with Sicilian oranges and tomatoes, Roman Calabrese, and local cabbages of every size, shape and colour. And it's a major social occasion for all the housewives to catch up with the gossip - my Italian is just about up to getting the gist - I love shopping there!
Radda is a pretty hilltop town about 25 kilometres north of Siena. In medieval times it was on the border between Florence and Siena when the two were constantly at war with one another, so every crag has a castle on top.
