Putting down roots
The Relief Channel is really low at the moment. A week ago you wouldn't have seen these posts but now they are 3 to 4 feet above the water surface. There are rows of poles dotted along this side of the river and my guess is that the Relief Channel was once about 10ft narrower and that they were the support for moorings years back.
If you look at the post to the right in the picture it looks as if it is turning back into a tree but the post is far too old for that. Closer inspection reveals roots wrapped around the post which would normally be submerged so it appears to be a sapling that has made this its home and is feeding hydroponically from the river. It's encouraging to see what a survivor nature can be.
