Hairy Dragon

My quest today was to get a shot of the hairy Dragonfly. Not easy as I've not seen them too much; they fly in May/June and they are a difficult shot to get. The males really do patrol their territory at low level so following them at low level is quite difficult if you are sitting or even standing on the canal bank and then they just disappear into the ether. No idea.

This female the first I'd seen came and started ovipositing but she was right in the reeds - the little minx. So secretive. The male was zipping round see Extras which have been cropped to an inch of their life!

A good bike ride early this morning and great to see 'Nerd Bird' the warden at Coombe Hill again.

They are the smallest hawker and have a very hairy thorax which obviously you can see zooming past at speed! I still haven't seen one resting and sunbathing but at least I feel I did what I went there for and was despairing I would!
