This way to the future

This would be a good geography puzzle: can you work out where this lovely old 1930s roadsign was originally sited, by using the distance to the various locations listed?

Now it is in front of Oxfordshire County Council's 'modern' headquarters, where I worked this morning - inside is ok, but outside is stark 1970s ugliness.

Ironically, I suspect the sign was placed there to show 'progress', highlighting the shiny newness of the council offices; but now it just reminds us of how design can get worse as well as better.

I'm not sure how clever geographers would solve the puzzle - some kind of triangulation perhaps? (Lazy interwebbers can simple Google it to be told "the crossroads on the B4031 south of Bloxham").
