Spaceship?

I walk past this every time I go to the gym but I'm no closer to working out what it is. I know it is part of the science park so maybe a massive chimney? I still think it looks like some form of spaceship!

The blue sky is deceptive because it has actually been very cold here today. The wind is really strong and the rain keeps coming and going. Not the best night for a bar crawl but I'm still looking forward to it!
