Frost

Winter doesn’t officially start until the first of June, but I’m declaring it has arrived now. This morning we had a winter-grade frost. The temperature was -2.7ºC in the greenhouse. On the lawn it was -5º. There was a high of 10º on a sunny, windless day. Other signs- my friendly fantail has stopped visiting me, the waxeyes crowd around the sugar water dispensers late afternoon, waiting for me to fill them, and lighting the fire has become a necessity.
