Cyathea dealbata,
The NZ silver fern, or ponga in Te Reo Maori. It is a species of tree fern found only in this country and the symbol of New Zealands national identity since the late 1800's. It is the underside which is silver or white. This large branch was on the forest floor this morning and unusually a lot of the little fern leaves were standing up on end. A number of tiny seeds can be seen on the leaves.
