Winter sunlight on the dome

... of Harrogate's Royal Baths building.

Opened in 1897 by the then Duke of Cambridge, the building originally housed a large number of facilities, boasting the best scientific, medical and spa treatments available, for the huge numbers of visitors coming to the town to benefit from the famous mineral wells.

Apparently, the roof also had equipment installed to melt snow.

With the decline of the spa after the first world war, alterations were made to the facilities on several occasions. The only continuous link to the original facilities is the Turkish Baths, still very popular.

The rest of the complex now houses a range of modern bars and restaurants (with the usual well-known city-centre names) and a Chinese Restaurant in the most spectacular room in the building.

After my trip to York yesterday, I have added a few extra images here.
