Big tree

For the last week or so I've been admiring this huge tree with the beautiful flowers or seed pods. I'm not sure what kind of tree it is, but as close as I can figure it might be a horse chestnut.  Then I walked by and the men were busy tearing it down.  So sad!  I'm not sure why. It seemed healthy and was beautiful to look at.
