Rocket

The tortoises went out into the garden again today as we are trying to acclimatise them to the great outdoors. They are not impressed at the moment although today we made more progress and they came out of the shade and explored the area. They like warm sunshine and so we can only do this when it is hot. Hopefully over time they can be outside more and more. This one is called Rocket and he or (I suspect she), is growing very fast. He has tripled his weight since last August when we began our fostering. The two we have presently are African Sulcatas and will grow to 75 pounds in twelve years. He is only staying with us until he is too large to be indoors. He is having a heated house built for him, probably next year. They are great characters and are happy to take food from our fingers. They look you in the eye and seem to observe our faces when we look at them. Another in extras.

The roof is (hopefully) fixed and the roofers have gone. Just the scaffolding to be removed and the place will feel more like home. After all the distancing it feels very odd to have workmen in the garden.

It looks like the strong winds will be back for a few days, hopefully it won't chill down too much. It is hard to believe that it is half term next week and almost June.
