FIRST BLOOM

Here's the first of my poppy buds to open. There are at least nine more to come and I've been eagerly watching them, but this took me by surprise. Yesterday it didn't look anywhere near ready.

I spent the afternoon clearing out the back yard (I really don't know how I'd manage a bigger garden) which I'd let get into a mess and which really needed some time and effort. Actually, it really needs for the rotten, uneven old concrete to be broken up and the whole thing to be levelled and re-paved or dug out, but it has inspection covers and there are drains and pipework not very far below the surface, so best left alone until I miraculously acquire loads of dosh.
