Windy

Very strong winds, which coincided with refuse collection day, resulting in swirling rubbish on many streets.  Fortunately there was little of that on the canalside.

Today's first listen was to Arcade Fire's 2017 album, Everything Now, on which my favourite song was the title track. It is amazing how often bands choose to name their album after its best song.

Juan Gris was one of the lesser known Cubists although he studied and painted with the movement's stars - Braque and Picasso - sharing a dilapidated studio block with the latter. His Portrait of Pablo Picasso shows his style well: not as violently fragmented as Braque or as provocative in content as his subject. This portrait uses fairly large planes of warm and cool colour, giving a pleasing clarity to the image.
