Elf Owl

Elf owls reach a wee length of only five inches tall – the size of a songbird – and their wingspan is a cute nine inches long. They weigh 1-1.5 ounces.

During late spring and summer, the owner of the Santa Rita Lodge, who lives on a hill across the street from the cabins, invites the overnight guests to his place to see these tiny creatures.  It was a pitch black night.  The light provided for us to takes photos was from his flashlight, for only 10 seconds at a time. Pretty decent beginning to my vacation.

After I unloaded my ice, food, clothes and equipment, I took some time to rest.  Later, I picked up the camera to go for a walk.  I forgot to pack my SD cards and thumb drives and can picture the container on the kitchen counter.  I asked around to see if I could buy a card from someone.  A stranger in another casita gave me one without taking any money.  That was amazingly nice.
