Lunch on the Veranda
One of our office friends is going to Turkey, so we enjoyed a final (until she comes back) lunch together on the veranda. Ok, maybe it's not a veranda, but "in the hut" doesn't sound as nice. The hut really does make a wonderful place for lunch, especially when there is a bit of a breeze like today.
Top row, left to right: Southern Thai curry soup with mini eggplants, papaya salad with fermented fish, two small bowls of sweet/spicy/sour sauce for the fish, and fresh veggies to eat with everything. We like to take a lettuce leaf, put some fish, sauce and a basil leaf in it, and wrap it up in a roll...yummy!
Middle row, left to right: fish coated in salt and slowly roasted over glowing coals (we peel back the salted skin to eat the soft, flaky meat and some people fight over the eye, but not me), Northern Thai pork and spices, Eastern Thai soup of veggies and herbs, bags of sticky rice.
Bottom row, left to right: Laab (spicy chopped pork cooked with ground sticky rice and seasonings from Eastern Thailand), fresh green bean salad, and another fish.
A feast fit for queens!
