Slingsby Castle

Up and out early for a bike ride over the not so flat Vale of Pickering. Beautiful sunny morning meant I could spin the legs and enjoy the ride. So many lovely villages to ride through.

Slingsby marked my turn for home and I made a slight detour to see how Slingsby Castle was looking. Although looked after by English Heritage and classified as ‘At Risk’ it is gradually being enveloped by vegetation. This link gives the history of the building. https://www.slingsbyvillage.co.uk/our-village/slingsby-castle/ The extra is Slingsby church. I really liked the tree in the churchyard.

Once home managed a Pilates session followed by baking a few scones. When out for a walk we heard two explosions and then emergency services sirens. The western side of Pickering was cordoned off as a mobile catering unit had caught fire threatening nearby houses which were evacuated. Hope no one was injured. I had cycled past twice on my way in and out this morning!
