An Unkindness of Ravens

Hairy nosed dragonfly

Not its official name; that would be Blue-spotted Hawker (Aeshna brevistyla). Although it had no blue spots, it was exactly like this in every other way, so I'm assuming they aren't always very blue!

It was very windy in the garden today and not much was to be seen. This dragonfly literally dropped from a bush onto the ground in front of me as I stood there, thinking that there was nothing about! What are the chances of that happening? If I hadn't seen it drop, I might have stepped on it as it was completely camouflaged on the dry-leaf strewn, overgrown path.

It allowed me to take a few snaps, then flew away.

But then I got quite a few nice images of other bugs that were braving the wind and have had great trouble deciding what to blip. I went with the dragonfly simply because I think it wanted to be blipped and I hardly ever see them sitting still in my garden.

Much hairier nose in big.
