So near and yet so far

Our lifeline still carrying only freight. When will they let us off our lump of granite?

We live on a rock 180 miles from Portsmouth in the UK and 14 miles from the French coast. Gosh how hard it must have been for the islands to hear the guns on D Day and then to have to wait a further year to be liberated. I can’t imagine how that must have felt. We really must not complain.
