The Whitsun Weddings
Our 36th Wedding Anniversary. We’ve had a good day - at home of course.
This must be one of the most popular times of year for weddings, and I do feel for those whose plans and expectations have been upended by the COVID-19 crisis.
The blip is the early evening sky. At this moment, unusually two jet trails. Centre a Dublin to Beijing flight, and to the left Dublin to Delhi. A bit later, a bright crescent moon and all the blackbirds singing in the clear sir. Always magical.
My personal highlight of the day. Sitting on our bench at lunchtime, a group of house martins flying around. And then they started exploring the artificial nest we had put up on our side gable in early 2018. The house sparrows had taken over the martin-made nest in 2017 and trashed it. Let’s see what happens next.
And late this evening a hedgehog in the front garden.
I reread Larkins poem this morning, it seemed appropriate. He was the head librarian when I was at Uni, and his description of the train journey in the poem is evocative for me. It was my route home too.
