Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2020 Wednesday — Road Trip

We left our SoCal driveway about 9:00 a.m. with a 4-hour Drive and a destination of Cayucos on California’s Central Coast as our plan.

We were in the last 60 minutes of our drive when we spotted this classy little vehicle on the road in front of us.

We arrived at the little lavender house after 4 hours and 5 minutes of driving time. We counted it as a good journey, but the north bound journey usually is.

We have no idea how long we’ll be here, but we’re hoping for a goodly amount of time (minimum of 3 weeks). Mostly we wanted to escape the SoCal heat and celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary this Friday, May 29th. When we married back in 1965, when I was 12 and Mr.Fun was 19, no one, absolutely no one thought we’d last a year.

Recently we were listening to Mary Chapin Carpenter singing “I’ll take My Chances.” That title resonates with us as Mr.Fun (Tom) & I reminisce this week about 55 years ago and the mess we were in.

I asked him to marry me (because he wasn’t asking me—much more back story here) and ultimately we both decided to “take a chance,” but what did a 15 and 19 year old know about chances? Not much!

Ten years later when we did a vow renewal, those words of promise were enormous because they were accompanied with 10-years of knowing and those first ten years had been vicious and victorious.

What we did not comprehend was what the next 45 years would bring: wonder and worship and, yes, occasionally worry.

So, we continue to daily “take our chances” and somedays are better than others, but every single day is worth the chance. AND TODAY we are nearing our 55th Anniversary.

Mostly, we thank God for taking a chance on us and for His continual blessing. So we recommend “taking chances.”

Good night from Cayucos on
California’s Central Coast,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too
