A new splash!

We’d like to start celebrating some of the incredible photos you add to your Blipfoto journals.  We have realised that we can showcase your images as cover photos which will be on display at the top of Blipfoto’s social media pages - now including Instagram!


We’d like to begin to use this area to recognise your images. 


We need a hand, though, to pick out the photos that you believe would make an appealing first impression to visitors.

If you would like to take part in this, we’re asking you to start tagging entries you are particularly proud of: #BCsplash.  You may already have some in mind from photos you’ve already taken and there won’t be a date restriction on this activity as we’d simply like to keep it going.  It may even inspire your photography!

Don’t be shy!  But when you’re deciding whether to add the tag, these things are going to be important:


- The images need to work in a banner format - we can crop them but you need to think about whether we can use part of your image in this letterbox style.  If it’s helpful, 1.91:1 is the ratio for Facebook and  3:1 for Twitter.  But don’t worry too much about that; you’ve probably already adjusted your own banners on facebook and that’s exactly what we’ll be doing to find the best fit.  The image we’ve used today for the community post, we’ve also added to Facebook and Twitter to give you an idea of how the cropped sizes look.  If you’re not sure but think it will work, don’t worry, just tag it and we can take a look.  Instagram is a little more flexible as you’ll see from how we’ve used blipper Cheeryoscuro’s evocative photo from the Blipfoto home page. 

- The image needs to be inspiring or uplifting or creative or bold or a stunning landscapes or a magnificent macro or… OK, so this is a tricky one; it could be all sorts of things! But we think you’ll know it when you see it.  And if you spot someone else’s photo, why not nudge them to add the #BCsplash tag?  

- Did you take it on the day?  As per all of our Blipfoto Community challenges, we’d like to keep #BCsplash in the spirit of Blipfoto so please only tag entries that really were taken on the day you posted.


We haven’t forgotten that some of you don’t use social media but you can still take part if you’d like to!  You’ll still be able to keep track of our changing galleries on Twitter if it’s something that interests you as you don’t need an account to view our site, our branding, your photos or our tweets.
