A new obsession?
I drove to Hector, the town north of here to check out their sale on perennials. The selection out here is slim in the first place and not much was left but I did come home with a fancy variety of Siberian iris and pink speedwell for my own garden expansion and for post office. This trip was also bittersweet. My brother, Scott and I would go there together to buy his annuals for his house. He told me what he wanted and had me help pick out the actual plants. He had the same list every year and this year, fighting back tears, I bought 2 of his favorites to have in my garden for his sake. An orange begonia and a climbing vine with bright yellow flower and dark center. He died 2 years ago now and the pain is right there ready to spill out in tears, it is as if he died last week. I think there is some healing going on though, being able to make these little pilgrimages is a sign.
Anyways, I had to stop and take a photo of the railroad yard in Hector, it looks so much different than the one in town here.
Meanwhile, on top of a huge downturn in income this past 2 weeks, the coronavirus worries, there is rioting escalating in my state over troubled racial and police relations. The governor has called in the National Guard.
I am glad I am well stocked with wine, seriously, there is only so much a person can take.
To cope I have been making lists of 'good things' just to try to counter all the other.
I am a 2 hour drive from where the riots are happening but I hear they are breaking out in other states now as well. Very concerning.
