Main Street through the graveyard

This is taken almost exactly in the reverse position of Tuesday's blip. It shows the rear of St Margaret's church tower across the graveyard. Until the late 19th century Main St would have been blocked from view by the original church. Now you can see some of the houses that front the street. The church was prone to flooding so they built a newer one on higher ground (see Monday's blip for window of new church).

Amazingly until fairly recently Main St was the main way to drive from Kendal to Windermere! Must have been chaos as it snarls up on most days now!
