First of the year

Our final day of monitoring the railway sidings was just as hot as Wednesday, but less oppressive, with a welcome cooling breeze. We'd just finished our last area and were walking back towards the car when I spotted this Bee Orchid in one of the non-environmental areas. It was looking surprisingly perky given the free-draining nature of the substrate it was growing in and how dry the weather's been.
