Quack, quack

or cheep, cheep!

A shady walk on the woodland paths of St Ives this morning was lovely in the continuing sun. Before we even got there we bumped in to fellow lady walkers, Wilsden Walker and A who were having a socially distanced walk together. A nice long chat with them and then immediately we got into the woods Chris got chatting to a lady he knows who lives in one of the cottages by Baxter’s Pond. These short walks can take quite along time with all these interactions!

We eventually reached Coppice Pond, not too busy though some seemed surprised when we pointed out the one way say stem which they continued to ignore.

First we saw the Canada Geese, one pair with the older two goslings and one with three little ones. Pleased to see they were still here but with perhaps one down.

Further down we could see ducklings on the water. Of course they came for the food we’d taken. These are the first ducklings I’ve seen so it was a good chance to take a video for Eda. There were five happy to come for food but another three went under the branches with mum.

Finally we saw the swans and cygnets on a safe bit of land at the end of the pond. They seemed. content to sleep there and we were content to leave them.

Had thought of popping into the garden centre as one of out bird feeders disappeared over night but there was a queue.
We think it was badgers as they’ve done it before and we’d had a chat with our neighbours yesterday where they confirmed they are still coming every night.

Lovely start to the day then... crisis! Chris went out mid afternoon to get something from the freezer for tea and it wouldn’t come on again when he closed the door. Thankfully three of our very good neighbours have helped out by taking in our frozen food. We just have a lot of tomatoes left so a big batch of tomato soup tomorrow I think and a hunt for anew freezer!

Stay safe everyone
