Broomrape

Spotted a load of these on the verge of a local lane. They have no chlorophyll and are parasitic on knapweed, which looks a bit like a non prickly thistle. Extra of Walt posing on the front of my Sunday best bike - he expected to be the star photo today until I spotted the broomrape.
