Pollokshields Gurdwara

This new Sikh temple is nearing completion and I read that it can hold 1,000 worshippers. Every time I pass I am struck by this angle with the stunning spire of the former Strathbungo Parish church behind it. This church has been redeveloped as flats.

I wonder if it is just the changing population demographic that means the Christian churches are in decline while other religious dominations have demand for more places of worship. Or is there a deeper significance to the place of community and religion among the non-Christian faiths? Having said that; there are a significant number of large churches within walking distance of here.
