Mud Bank
Did a walk beside the River Tyne today. The last 14 miles of the river is tidal and today the tide was out exposing these mud banks. Behind them you will see Dunston Staiths where the ships used to dock and be loaded with coal. It is a huge timber structure and sadly a few weeks ago security was breached and it was set on fire.
Apparently there used to be thirty staiths on the river and now there is only this one so it is vital that is is preserved. A restoration fund has been set up but I heard today that they may be receiving some assistance from the National Trust to repair it.
