A view of the moors
I have tried to capture this view a few times recently on my phone but today have used the camera instead which means I need to use a computer to upload it. I am now sharing Dave's computer as mine had to be returned after I finished work .We are hoping that 38 years of marriage will have equipped us with the required skills for this sharing challenge , and time will tell.
The view is of Oswaldtwistle and Haslingden moors, which together create the stepped landscape in the background. I am intrigued by the way the moors step down so that you can see a series of levels. I spent some happy time this afternoon trying to find a geological explanation
but found very little. The area was once a huge water filled basin and has also been covered with ice sheets but I am non the wiser about how the differential levels of these moors have come about. It is fascinating to think that this area has been covered with tropical seas, delta's, flowing ice , swamps etc. It will have been trampled by huge herbivores, worked by Beavers , covered in open woodland , farmed for 2000 years, inhabited by people earning a living from weaving on looms in their cottages and now either grazed by sheep or flooded to provide drinking water for the good people of Bolton.
The landscape has such tales to tell !
It has been a fairly quiet day today , walked the dog, chatted to our daughter, reluctantly managed to do the yoga and meditation and made curry for tea.
We have just watched the last part of the memorial service for George Floyd and sat in silence for 8 minutes 46 seconds which was very moving.
