Mesh or be damned...
Apologies for the over dramatic title but it was the best I could come up with. However, I’ve had a mesh router system to get the internet reasonably spread around in the house for a couple of years. It was ok with just the main module and one satellite one but and as our usage of the internet increased it seemed to be less efficient over time.
Anyway I’ve just added a third satellite in the house and a fourth weather proof satellite (as seen in the photo). The coverage is now excellent, even reaching inside the cottage which is a separate building entirely. .
The benefit of a mesh type Wi-fi system is the addition of more satellites (which only need A power supply) to increase the signal range, does not significantly reduce the strength of the original Wi-fi signal. The more traditional access point systems can reduce the signal strength dramatically with each module added and are therefore they are a much less attractive option.
In other news...
Work has been quite intense today which is the punishment for spending a few hours fishing yesterday. However a lot got done and I also managed to get the new mesh exterior satellite wall mounted.
Talking of satellites, the GPS system on the larger of the two robot lawn mowers was also reset and now both machines are working exceptionally well.
