Purple Headed Toadflax

A plant which has escaped its native Mediterranean homeland and now considered very much an unwelcome weed.

Purple Headed Toadflax is quite innocuous - for most of the year you hardly notice it. It is a spindly plant and has narrow grey/green leaves. Throughout the early spring you can so easily pass it by without a glance. In recent weeks they have all started to burst out their brilliant purple flowers, such that you can hardly miss them.
