Amazon
They were the fabled Amazons. They were the toughest crew on the water. Tall, strong and formidable. Each of them had drowned a male rower as the price of their seat on the boat. They cut off their right breasts so that their rowing was not hampered. They would turn up at a regatta, unannounced, and beat every men’s boat. When an Amazon died, her body was launched down the river on a flaming skiff. They trained on locusts and honey. They were implacable and undefeatable. They were magnificent.
