You never know what you're missing 'til it's gone.
A while back I thought I'd have a standby Blip for when I couldn't think or see anything out of the mundane. I decided on post boxes and phone boxes. Newcastle today was cold and grey so as I proceeded down Grey Street I took the easy option and snapped a pair of KX100's and an Ell Type B. Or to you and me, two phone boxes and a pillar box.
I liked the straight lines of this subject, solid stone building blocks, diagonal paving lines and vertical lines of the phone boxes. Just seemed to work for me.
I'd been looking out for the ubiquitous Type K6 phone box, the one with all the windows but it seems they're becoming a rarity despite almost 200,000 being produced and installed. A second-hand one fetches £2000 in un-renovated condition consequently the PO seem to be withdrawing and selling them off. I suppose they'll say it's a cost-reduction (improving profits) measure or to provide a better service (improving profits) or an H&S directive (improving profits). Or even the EU's fault (improving profits). It'll be doing wonders for shareholder value. But what about the customer? Who?
