Meowing Mystery

I took our little guest to the vet's for a check-up. Apart from a slight ear infection he is healthy - and even though he hasn't been fixed yet he does have a microchip. A microchip from Romania. A microchip from Romania that hasn't been registered in any German or international databases.

This raises some questions:
Who would have a microchip implanted in their cat but not register the identification number?
Who would care enough for a kitten to have it microchipped and then abandon it?
Who would abandon a five-month-old Chartreux kitten anyway?
And how the heck did a Romanian kitten get to Germany in the first place? Because of the corona crisis the borders have been closed for almost three months!

Sometimes I really wish cats could talk.
