Super Whooper
I'd travelled to WWT Welney, a fen and marsh area, specifically created to primarily benefit winged wildlife, and to act as a flood plain for the surrounding area. Newly opened in 2006, the visitor centre 'stands out' as a building that is ideally suited to both its location and purpose. I'd spent the whole afternoon there (my first visit), seen many new faces, and taken many photos. During the afternoon I had the spectacle of the Whooper swan feed joined by guest Mike Dilger. As part of his Big 9 Challenge in aid of the spoon-billed Sandpiper, he was visiting all 9 WWT locations in 9 days. Later on, and a belly full of sausage and chips later, I returned to the centre for Mike's talk on the WWT, his work, and his book. It wasn't easy choosing a picture for today's events, but this many and varied gathering, taken at a feeding time, I think sums up the location and experience.
