Green Green Grass Of Home
Was asked by Community Choirmaster to choose our 3 favourite songs - to be sung at the Community Choir Zoom session - and give reasons why they were chosen
Our absolute favourite is Delilah - by Tom Jones - first sung as a solo by R - at full throttle - in a local panto many years ago - I was in his backing chorus - singing the twiddly bits and the da da da da’s - the character he played was Hubert who was a pigeon fancier - his favourite bird being Delilah - the song words were suitably adapted to reflect this fact
Since this performance the original lyrics have been sung in many places over the years - a memorable performance was in a restaurant in Rome - an operatic soprano - accompanied by a classical violinist was serenading diners with operatic classics - such as Just One Cornetto - and Nessum Dorma - they suddenly burst out into Delilah - just had to join to join in
Have also sung it in an Irish Pub in Bolivia - and more recently sung a version of it at St Ives Golf Club - for The Choir Birthday Party - lyrics this time adapted to sing the praises of our Choirmaster - R was accompanied by his backing group - The Rogettes - made up of ladies who walk and blippers - who are also choristers
Whilst walking afterwards failed to find a pigeon to blip - had to settle for a shot of The Green Green Of Home - another Tom Jones number
