Red Hot Poker

Kniphofia uvaria is a species of flowering plant in the family Asphodelaceae, also known as tritomea, torch lily, or red hot poker, due to the shape and color of its inflorescence. This one is growing in a barrel at the allotments. It was purchased last year as a slip of a thing from Aldi’s at 89p and at the time I was unsure whether it would survive. However, it has thrived and rewarded me this year with 4 flowering spikes.
