A Drumlin
When I first saw this hill I thought it might be a burial mound. But no, I've since learned it's a drumlin. An oval shaped hill, largely composed of glacial drift, formed beneath a glacier or ice sheet and aligned in the direction of ice flow. If you look at the hill on an aerial map the oval is roughly north to south. There quite a few round here.
We carried on walking up to Gurnal Dubs- a swimming tarn above Staveley, a 6.5km walk with not too much climb. The swim was "refreshing". We had the tarn to ourselves, other than 2 swans. The tarn was created by erecting a dam to enclose 3 small natural ponds or "dubs". It is very good for swimming - tarn view in extras. Rushed back for the Tuesday Run Zoom lunch via a shop stop in Staveley and bought our first ice cream cone of the summer - from the coffee roaster who seems to have diversified.
Day 81 update
286 deaths up to 40,883 people with a confirmed test. The Office of National Statistics has figures that show deaths exceed 50,000 if you count those with Covid#19 suspected on the death certificate.
Good news, shops that are not currently open, can open next Monday but pubs, restaurants and hairdressers will not open until 4 July at the earliest. I think that's England only.
Our local Zoo near Ulverston is desperate to be able to open to visitors . I'm sure it's the same for Zoos everywhere. They need paying customers to pay for the animals food even with locals donating supplies. The biggest agricultural show in our area, Westmorland Show , scheduled for September has been cancelled because of too many uncertainties over social distancing and large gatherings.
