Mother Nature’s Son

One of the few positives we can take from lockdown is that it has given nature a chance to recover from the damage inflicted by our modern world.
Watching the birds and bees going about their routines can be strangely therapeutic, and I never cease to be amazed at how the bare twigs and tiny seedlings of three months ago are now a riot of colour and foliage.
There definitely seems to be a change for the better. Breeds of bird we’ve not seen before are now appearing in our garden regularly. We also have hedgehogs visiting on an almost daily basis.
Admittedly most of these visitors come for the food liberally doled out by Mrs C - I swear we spend more each week in bird food than we do in the supermarket!
But the bees come for the nectar. Having had the “luxury” of time to look after the garden this spring, we have been rewarded with a myriad of flowers and, as a consequence, more bees than I have seen for many years.
The human race is usually the one wiping out nature. Now the boot is on the other foot, it’s nice to see nature fighting back. I pray we do not immediately go back to the old ways when this crisis is over.
