Under surveillance
I went for a bicycle ride this afternoon in the nice weather. I wanted to see one of the strongholds that are close by where I live and I haven't been there before. The place is about seven kilometres away and the last bit I had to walk through a bit of forest.
The stronghold is one of the smaller ones, only about 60-70 meters in diameter. Probably these strongholds were used for shelter during bad times, some were perhaps used for religious purposes and some, they think were used for weapon training. This one, and most of the strongholds on the island are from the iron age about 300 AD.
Some years ago it was all overtaken by forest but now it has been cleared and made available to people, as well as grazing sheep. They were a little bit suspicious at first but soon got very friendly.
The road back home went along one of the old church roads, you can just barely see Torslunda church tower to the left over the the treetops. A pretty reminder of olden times.
