A flower?

This is another plant I have been photographing almost daily, but which hasn't made it to blip until today.  I keep wondering if these apparent little budlets will eventually burst into flower.  The spike is growing out of a rosette of fairly pale green leaves - now almost invisible due to a plethora of self seeded Euphorbia growing up around it.

Possibly a gift from TonyG?  But I have no idea what it is.  If it does eventually burst into flower, I'll probably blip it again.

The weather is better today.  It was quite hot during the middle of the day, when the sun was shining, but it is still cold this evening - I've put on a thick jumper to sit and watch the TV - Springwatch shortly.
