Arthur Sullivan
Day 83 - To Laleham and Walton-on-Thames. Back via bumpy towpath. Sir Arthur Sullivan ( 1842-1900) lived in River House overlooking the river at Walton for four years. He is best known for his series of 14 operatic collaborations with the dramatist W.S.Gilbert including H.M.S Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and the Mikado. In addition he composed orchestral works, choral works and two ballets as well as numerous hymns and church pieces. His best know hymn is “Onward Christian Soldiers”.
