Sea Horses
Today is Candlemas when traditionally candles (which were the main source of light) were blessed and it is half way between the winter and spring solstices.
But these horses enjoying the sea near Gullane Point are just enjoying the bright weather and unaware of the saying;
If Candlemas Day be fair and bright
Winter will have another fight.
If Candlemas Day brings cloud and rain,
Winter won't come again.
The day started off beautifully sunny and bright but cloud spread over later so will 'winter have another fight' or not? Today in several countries it is the day when according to legend, creatures leave their burrows and investigate the weather to see if winter is nearly over. (Groundhog Day in USA) So is this what a big hairy 'woolly bear' caterpillar crawling slowly across an icy puddle in Aberlady Nature Reserve was doing? I rescued it from its long frozen path to some dense grass where it could shelter if 'winter will have another fight.'
