Yucca Flower
The weather is warming up again so I went out early to do a little taming of the giant verbena growing under the fig tree. I liked the early morning light on the yucca flower. I lost track of time and rushed inside to join Pilates class in my shorts. There are some advantages in being able to exercise without leaving home. The county health officer has pushed the pause button again while she awaits developments stemming from the demonstrations, so we still don't know when the studio will be able to open or even what the protocols will be.
We reconvened in person with Gail and Bob at the Trail House for post Pilates coffee, sitting at picnic tables set out in the parking area. They have quite a complicated system for allocating tables with proper social distancing, but it was still early and they weren't very busy....
John went to the bird store again. He seems to be feeding the birds (and the squirrels) about 40 pounds of birdseed a week, which seems excessive to me... especially when they can find plenty of things to eat in the garden. I think we need to either stop feeding the birds or make the bird feeders more squirrel proof.
The quail appeared with four little fluff ball babies this morning. It is charming to see the male find a sentry point from which he checks out the entire area before giving his mate and their babies the go-ahead to scurry across the driveway.
Sometimes life imitates nature. Birds seem to have perfected the art of social distancing...
Time seems to be passing in a very odd way....flying past as one day blends into the next, but events of six months ago seem like ancient history or another lifetime entirely. I don't dare think ahead, so living in the moment still seems to be the proper way to proceed....
