Early morning jaunt
More than anything, Deedle the Dane and Frostie the Grey, enjoy their regular outings to the dam.
Since they are fairly disciplined and will listen to our commands, it is quite safe to let them run free when nobody else or no other dogs are around.
Once before, when there were ducks around, Frostie could not contain her natural instinct and took off in the water, swimming like mad and giving them chase.
Fortunately no damage was done, but we require absolute obedience of them.
As Deedle's size can be intimidating, when outside of our property, we always keep them on leashes and allow no free roaming in the streets.
Returning from the dam, there was an incident when the electronic gates to a property opened and two smaller dogs came charging out!
Perhaps the owner wanted to take his car out, but it was unwise not to check beforehand that the street was clear .....
One went directly for Deedle, who picked him up in his jaws - and it felt like ages before Deedle let go of the dog, despite Johann's strong commands.
Fortunately Deedle did not bite or crush - he simply held on, perhaps just restrained the other dog.
We've been in similar circumstances where other dogs (the aggressors) charged at Deedle in the past - it always leaves us with a huge predicament.
Deedle is always fastened and on a leash, while the other dog is not.
He is not an aggressive dog, but it will require little effort with jaws such as his to do massive damage.
At least they had a good outing and a little excitement this morning!
