Mutual aid

Freedom Press is a radical bookshop and publisher in Whitechapel. It was founded in 1886, and has been a beacon for dreamers like me ever since. It also distributes Zapatista coffee to mums up and down the country.

Yesterday, at 5am, someone tried to burn it down. The owners don't know who, although the circumstances and the cack-handed job they did of it have left many of the mind that it was fascists. Book-burning, see. They like that sort of thing.

Today, more than 100 people of various political hues turned up to clean up the sorry mess they left behind, sort through the stock that's beyond repair, dust off that that could still be sold, and help the shop begin to rebuild.

Because solidarity, that's why.
