Quiet this year

This is the view today of the road which is normally used for 'flashing', i.e. showing off the horses, during Appleby Fair Week - See here for what it usually looks like over the weekend. 

But this year it hasn't happened and this road has looked the same all over the weekend. In normal times everyone would have moved off on Monday and Tuesday and today the big clean up would have been taking place. Not this year! 

Apparently a few travellers did arrive on Sunday and a few more hangers on joined them. They did not stay long, more because the pubs were shut than that there were police around I suspect. Their story was that they had to carry out the sale of a horse so that they can come back next year. I wonder if stories like this will in the future be called 'A Cummings Tale'.
