Squirrel Blip Friday .....
.... takes a back seat to this happening!
Our day started out pretty normal but then got crazy later on when a couple of drunks men decided to speed up a nearby road at 80 mph, almost crash head into another vehicle, almost take out a pedestrian and then crash into an utility pole sheering it clean off and leaving us without power for 8 plus hours! Phew! That was a long sentence!
Our day from the beginning ...
Richard decided to take the day off to do some things in the attic that needed attention .... and for some fun things, too. After lunch we went back to the Trexler Nature Preserve to walk the same trail as last Thursday and walk through the ford again as we very much enjoyed that! On the way home we stopped at a few places before getting home by 4:30 pm.
After supper I was sitting in the sunroom reading the newspapers and Richard was out in the backyard re-potting some plants we had purchased earlier when we both heard a tremendous BOOM! We knew that wasn't a great sound and were worried it might have been an ambulance as we had heard a siren right before the crash sounded. We knew the crash was probably on the street below the house so we hopped in the car and drove down. The above scene is what greeted us! Thankfully it wasn't the ambulance or any other emergency vehicle ... just a pickup truck on it's side. The response to this accident must have been immediate as it didn't take us that long to get to the scene. (I didn't take my camera with me so these are shots from my smartphone.)
As I mentioned above the utility pole was sheered off leaving us without power (and 732 others!) until about 3:40 am Saturday morning. R had set up the generator for the refrigerator ... which we only ran a couple of times. All the food has been saved! I only hope our neighbors were as lucky. If you look at the right side of the upper picture you can see the sheered off pole. It landed several feet from the base and a fire was started in the trees.
Crazy, crazy day!
In happier news ... we had our fifth Eastern Black Swallowtail emerge this morning ... see extra. It was another male.
