The Well

The dogs and I took a walk along the clifftops West of The Bluff today.

This well (just to the left of the top of the posts and down on the beach) was put in by early settlers. (There is a cliff face below the posts which is hard to tell from this photo). They would walk down to the beach and lower their buckets into the well then walk back up to the clifftop and haul the bucket up with a winch. The two posts are all that remains of the winch.

For Legodude a piece of litter (a tissue) is included. That's the little white patch.

I've walked this path many times and never noticed the well or the posts before. There's a brand new sign, inconveniently placed right in front of those posts pointing them out. Good and bad.

I met a lady with a walking frame in front of the sign on the way back who takes other old folk with walking frames on local walks. Good on her! She called them "wheelies" (the old folk with walking frames that is).
